〜ものがある

Used when the speaker senses a certain quality in something and evaluates it, often with admiration or with a feeling that is hard to put into words. It typically follows words of evaluation such as すばらしい・目を見張る・心を打つ・厳しい. The subject is usually a thing, work, performance or situation, not a plain fact about the speaker; and it is not used for one-time personal feelings like ×「今日は寒いものがある」.

• 彼の歌声には、人の心を打つものがある。

  かれのうたごえには、ひとのこころをうつものがある。

  There is something in his singing voice that moves people.

• この子の絵の才能は、すばらしいものがある。

  このこのえのさいのうは、すばらしいものがある。

  This child's talent for drawing is truly remarkable.

• 新人がいきなり営業成績一位とは、目を見張るものがある。

  しんじんがいきなりえいぎょうせいせきいちいとは、めをみはるものがある。

  For a newcomer to top the sales rankings straight away is quite striking.
