〜をものともせず

A written, somewhat dramatic expression meaning the person pays no heed to a serious difficulty — danger, injury, bad weather, handicap — and acts bravely anyway. It always praises a third party's courage, so it is unnatural to use about oneself. Compare 〜をよそに (ignoring others' concerns, often selfishly) and 〜にもかかわらず (neutral 'although').

• 彼は大けがをものともせず、試合に出場した。

  かれはおおけがをものともせず、しあいにしゅつじょうした。

  Undaunted by his serious injury, he took part in the match.

• 救助隊は吹雪をものともせずに山へ向かった。
