〜こともある

Used to say that something happens occasionally, though it is not the rule. It softens a statement by admitting exceptions, so it often follows a general statement like 「普通は〜が、〜こともある」. Do not confuse it with 〜たことがある, which is about past experience; 〜こともある describes frequency in general or habitual situations.

• 日曜日は家にいることもあります。

  にちようびは いえに いる こともあります。

  Sometimes I stay home on Sundays.

• いつもはバスですが、雨の日は歩かないこともある。

  いつもは ばすですが、あめのひは あるかない こともある。

  I usually take the bus, and on rainy days I sometimes don't walk at all.

• この店は안い時もあるし、高いこともあるので、値段を見てから買います。

  このみせは やすいときもあるし、たかいこともあるので、ねだんを みてから かいます。

  This shop is sometimes cheap and sometimes expensive, so I check the price before buying.
