〜さえ〜ば

States the one and only condition needed for a result: nothing else matters. さえ attaches to the key element, and the verb of the clause takes the ば-form (する→すれば, いる→いれば). It is stronger and more exclusive than a plain 〜ば/〜たら sentence, and often carries relief, confidence, or regret when used with a past result.

• 薬さえ飲めば、すぐによくなりますよ。

  くすりさえのめば、すぐによくなりますよ。

  As long as you take the medicine, you'll get better soon.

• お金さえあれば幸せになれるというものではない。

  おかねさえあればしあわせになれるというものではない。

  It's not as if you can be happy just by having money.

• あのとき確認しさえすれば、こんな失敗はしなかったのに。

  あのときかくにんしさえすれば、こんなしっぱいはしなかったのに。

  If only I had checked at that time, I wouldn't have made such a mistake.
