Used to say that you do something while a situation has not yet changed, because the change would make it harder or worse. The speaker often feels a sense of urgency or takes advantage of the current state. The main clause is typically an action, not a mere state, and 〜ないうちに is close to 〜前に but adds the nuance of 'before it's too late'.

• 雨が降らないうちに帰りましょう。

  あめがふらないうちにかえりましょう。

  Let's go home before it starts raining.

• 暗くならないうちに、買い物を済ませたい。

  くらくならないうちに、かいものをすませたい。

  I want to finish the shopping before it gets dark.

• 忘れないうちに、メモしておきます。

  わすれないうちに、メモしておきます。

  I'll jot it down before I forget.
