〜はもちろん

Presents the first item as obvious or taken for granted, then adds a second, more surprising item, usually marked with も or まで. It is used to emphasise breadth or extent and is slightly formal; the casual spoken variant is 〜はもちろん、〜も. Remember that it attaches to nouns, and the added item should be in the same category as the first.

• 彼は英語はもちろん、中国語も話せます。

  かれはえいごはもちろん、ちゅうごくごもはなせます。

  He can speak Chinese, not to mention English.

• この店は味はもちろん、値段も安い。

  このみせはあじはもちろん、ねだんもやすい。

  This restaurant tastes great, and it's cheap too.

• あのアニメは子供はもちろん、大人にも人気があります。

  あのアニメはこどもはもちろん、おとなにもにんきがあります。

  That anime is popular with adults as well as, of course, children.
