〜てからでないと

States that one action is a necessary prerequisite: until it is completed, the second thing is impossible. The second clause must be negative or express impossibility (〜ない, 〜られません, 〜は無理だ). 〜てからでなければ is slightly more formal; note that plain 〜てから simply means "after" without this "otherwise impossible" condition.

• 手を洗ってからでないと、食べてはいけません。

  てをあらってからでないと、たべてはいけません。

  You mustn't eat unless you wash your hands first.

• 予約してからでないと、その店には入れない。

  よやくしてからでないと、そのみせにははいれない。

  You can't get into that restaurant without booking first.

• 部長の許可をもらってからでなければ、この書類は出せません。

  ぶちょうのきょかをもらってからでなければ、このしょるいはだせません。

  I can't submit this document until I get the manager's approval.
