〜ようがない

States that there is no method or means available, so the action is impossible however much one wants to do it. It differs from 〜られない (simple inability) by stressing the absence of any means at all. 〜ようもない is a slightly stronger, more emphatic variant. Fixed expressions like 言いようがない, 直しようがない are common.

• 電話番号が分からないので、連絡しようがない。

  でんわばんごうがわからないので、れんらくしようがない。

  I don't know the phone number, so there's no way to contact them.

• こんなに壊れていては、直しようがありません。

  こんなにこわれていては、なおしようがありません。

  Broken this badly, there's no way to fix it.

• 彼の親切には、お礼の言いようもない。

  かれのしんせつには、おれいのいいようもない。

  I can't even find words to thank him for his kindness.
