〜に応じて

Used when something changes flexibly in proportion to a variable such as ability, income, situation, or demand. The following action adapts to whatever value that variable takes, so the noun before it is typically something that can vary (収入, 能力, 状況, 希望, 必要). 〜に応じた + noun is the adnominal form. It is common in written and formal/business Japanese; compare 〜によって, which is broader and also expresses cause or agent.

• 収入に応じて税金が決まります。

  しゅうにゅうにおうじてぜいきんがきまります。

  Taxes are determined according to your income.

• お客様の希望に応じたプランをご用意しております。

  おきゃくさまのきぼうにおうじたぷらんをごよういしております。

  We have prepared plans tailored to each customer's wishes.

• その日の天気に応じて、practice の場所を変えることにしている。

  そのひのてんきにおうじて、ぷらくてぃすのばしょをかえることにしている。

  We change the practice location depending on the weather that day.
