〜くなる／〜になる

なる expresses a change that happens naturally or by itself, not one someone deliberately causes. Use 〜く with い-adjectives (いい→よくなる) and 〜に with な-adjectives and nouns. Compare with 〜くする／〜にする, which means someone actively makes something that way.

• だんだん寒くなりました。

  だんだんさむくなりました。

  It has gradually gotten cold.

• 日本語が上手になりたいです。

  にほんごがじょうずになりたいです。

  I want to become good at Japanese.

• 兄は来年、先生になります。

  あにはらいねん、せんせいになります。

  My older brother will become a teacher next year.
