〜など（軽視）

Here など does not list examples but expresses the speaker's low evaluation, humility or rejection of the thing mentioned. It is usually followed by a negative or a negative-sounding predicate: 〜などない, 〜などできない, 〜など思わない. In casual speech the same nuance is carried by なんか (after nouns) and なんて; など itself is the more formal, written-sounding form.

• 私など、まだまだ勉強が足りません。

  わたしなど、まだまだべんきょうがたりません。

  Someone like me still has a lot to learn.

• そんなつまらない番組など見たくない。

  そんなつまらないばんぐみなどみたくない。

  I don't want to watch a boring program like that.

• 彼が嘘をつくなど、私には信じられない。

  かれがうそをつくなど、わたしにはしんじられない。

  The idea that he would lie is something I just can't believe.
