〜が好きです／嫌いです

好き and 嫌い are な-adjectives, not verbs, so the thing liked or disliked is marked with が, not を. To say you like doing something, nominalise the verb with のが: 泳ぐのが好きです. Before a noun they become 好きな／嫌いな (好きな食べ物), and 嫌い is quite strong, so Japanese speakers often soften it with あまり好きじゃないです.

• 私は犬が好きです。

  わたしはいぬがすきです。

  I like dogs.

• 弟は野菜が嫌いです。

  おとうとはやさいがきらいです。

  My little brother hates vegetables.

• 음… 音楽を聞くのが好きですが、歌うのはあまり好きじゃないです。

  おんがくをきくのがすきですが、うたうのはあまりすきじゃないです。

  I like listening to music, but I don't really like singing.
