〜ばこそ

An emphatic way of giving a reason: "it is exactly because of X (and nothing else) that Y." The reason is usually a positive or well-meant one, and the sentence often ends with 〜のだ／〜のです. It is formal and somewhat literary compared with the everyday 〜からこそ, which has the same meaning but a wider range of use.

• 君のことを思えばこそ、厳しく言うのだ。

  きみのことを おもえばこそ、きびしく いうのだ。

  It's precisely because I care about you that I speak so strictly.

• 家族の支えがあればこそ、ここまで続けられました。

  かぞくの ささえが あればこそ、ここまで つづけられました。

  It is only thanks to my family's support that I have been able to keep going this far.

• 健康であればこそ、思い切り働くことができる。

  けんこうで あればこそ、おもいきり はたらくことが できる。

  It is precisely because one is healthy that one can work to the fullest.
