〜ばそれまでだ

States that once the condition happens, everything becomes pointless and there is nothing more to be done, often as a warning. It frequently follows a clause praising effort or value: "however great X is, if Y happens it's all over." The tone is resigned or cautionary, and 〜たらそれまでだ is a common equivalent variant.

• どんなに高い車も、事故を起こせばそれまでだ。

  どんなに たかい くるまも、じこを おこせば それまでだ。

  No matter how expensive the car, once you crash it, that's the end.

• データを保存しておかないと、パソコンが壊れればそれまでですよ。

  データを ほぞんして おかないと、パソコンが こわれれば それまでですよ。

  If you don't back up your data, it's all lost the moment your PC breaks.

• 才能があっても、努力をやめてしまえばそれまでだ。

  さいのうが あっても、どりょくを やめてしまえば それまでだ。

  Even with talent, if you stop making an effort, that's the end of it.
