〜はさておき

Used to set one topic aside temporarily in order to deal with a more pressing one; the set-aside topic is not dismissed as unimportant, just postponed. It often follows a question-word clause, as in 「できるかどうかはさておき」. Slightly formal but common in speech too; compare 〜は別として, which is closer to "apart from / except for".

• 冗談はさておき、本題に入りましょう。

  じょうだんは さておき、ほんだいに はいりましょう。

  Joking aside, let's get down to business.

• 値段はさておき、デザインはとてもいいと思う。

  ねだんは さておき、デザインは とても いいと おもう。

  Price aside, I think the design is very good.

• 実現できるかどうかはさておき、まずアイデアを出してみよう。

  じつげん できるかどうかは さておき、まず アイデアを だしてみよう。

  Whether it's feasible or not aside, let's start by putting out ideas.
