〜に至って

Marks the point at which a situation has reached an extreme or final stage, and is usually followed by a statement that action was finally taken — or, with 〜に至ってもまだ, that nothing has changed. The noun is typically a serious development (事故・倒産・この段階). It is formal written Japanese; compare 〜に至るまで (extent, 'even down to') and 〜に至っては (singling out the worst example).

• 死者が出るに至って、ようやく対策が取られた。

  ししゃがでるにいたって、ようやくたいさくがとられた。

  It was only when deaths occurred that measures were finally taken.

• この段階に至って計画の変更は不可能だ。

  このだんかいにいたってけいかくのへんこうはふかのうだ。

  At this stage it is impossible to change the plan.

• 倒産に至ってもなお、社長は責任を認めようとしなかった。

  とうさんにいたってもなお、しゃちょうはせきにんをみとめようとしなかった。

  Even after it came to bankruptcy, the president still refused to admit responsibility.
