〜も〜ない（何も・誰も）

A question word plus も with a negative verb gives a total negation: 何も = nothing, 誰も = nobody, どこへも = nowhere. The verb must be negative; with a positive verb these same words take different meanings. Note that particles へ/に stay (どこにも行きません) but を and が drop out.

• 朝、何も食べませんでした。

  あさ、なにもたべませんでした。

  I didn't eat anything this morning.

• 教室に誰もいません。

  きょうしつにだれもいません。

  There is nobody in the classroom.

• 日曜日はどこへも行きませんでした。

  にちようびはどこへもいきませんでした。

  I didn't go anywhere on Sunday.
