〜だけ

Limits the item or amount to that one thing, implying nothing or no one else. だけ usually replaces は/が/を but can come before them (だけは, だけを) and attaches directly before です/だ. Compare with しか〜ない, which also means "only" but needs a negative verb and adds a nuance of "not enough"; だけ is neutral.

• 水だけ飲みます。

  みずだけのみます。

  I drink only water.

• りんごを一つだけ買いました。

  りんごをひとつだけかいました。

  I bought just one apple.

• 日曜日だけ休みです。

  にちようびだけやすみです。

  Sunday is my only day off.
