〜ように（目的）

States a goal or desired result; the verb before ように is normally non-volitional — a potential verb, a negative, or a verb describing a state (見える, わかる, 間に合う). Use 〜ために instead when both clauses have the same subject and the verb is volitional (行くために). The final clause usually expresses an action taken to achieve that result.

• よく見えるように、前に座りました。

  よく みえる ように、まえに すわりました。

  I sat at the front so I could see well.

• 風邪をひかないように、暖かくしてください。

  かぜを ひかない ように、あたたかく して ください。

  Please keep warm so you don't catch a cold.

• みんなが分かるように、ゆっくり話してくださいませんか。

  みんなが わかる ように、ゆっくり はなして くださいませんか。

  Could you speak slowly so that everyone can understand?
