〜かもしれない

Expresses a low-to-medium possibility: the speaker admits something could be true but is not confident. Politer speech uses かもしれません, casual speech often shortens it to かも. It is much weaker than 〜でしょう or 〜はずだ; use はずだ when you have grounds to be fairly sure.

• 午後は雨が降るかもしれません。

  ごごはあめがふるかもしれません。

  It might rain in the afternoon.

• 彼はまだ来ていない。道に迷ったかもしれない。

  かれはまだきていない。みちにまよったかもしれない。

  He hasn't arrived yet. He may have gotten lost.

• その仕事、私には無理かもしれないけど、やってみます。

  そのしごと、わたしにはむりかもしれないけど、やってみます。

  That job may be beyond me, but I'll give it a try.
