〜ても／〜でも（逆接）

Says that the expected result does not happen: even if A, B still holds. It works for both hypothetical situations and actual facts, and often pairs with いくら〜ても or どんなに〜ても for emphasis. Note the difference from 〜のに, which always refers to a real fact and carries the speaker's dissatisfaction or surprise.

• 雨が降っても、試合をします。

  あめがふっても、しあいをします。

  We'll play the match even if it rains.

• высокくても買いたいです。

  たかくてもかいたいです。

  Even if it's expensive, I want to buy it.

• いくら説明しても、彼は分かってくれなかった。

  いくらせつめいしても、かれはわかってくれなかった。

  No matter how much I explained, he wouldn't understand.
