〜てくださる

The respectful version of 〜てくれる: a person of higher status does something kind for the speaker or the speaker's in-group. The giver is the subject and takes が/は; the beneficiary is the speaker, so 私に is usually omitted. くださる conjugates irregularly in the polite form: くださいます (not くださります). The request form 〜てください comes from this verb.

• 先生が本を貸してくださいました。

  せんせいがほんをかしてくださいました。

  My teacher kindly lent me a book.

• 社長が駅まで車で送ってくださった。

  しゃちょうがえきまでくるまでおくってくださった。

  The company president kindly drove me to the station.

• 忙しいのに手伝ってくださって、ありがとうございます。

  いそがしいのにてつだってくださって、ありがとうございます。

  Thank you for helping me even though you're busy.
