〜てもらえませんか

A polite request built on the potential form of もらう plus a negative question, which softens the request. It is politer than 〜てください and slightly more casual than 〜ていただけませんか; the plain version 〜てもらえない？ is used with friends. Because the speaker is asking for a favour, it often comes after すみませんが or ちょっと.

• すみません、窓を開けてもらえませんか。

  すみません、まどをあけてもらえませんか。

  Excuse me, could you open the window for me?

• ちょっと写真を撮ってもらえませんか。

  ちょっとしゃしんをとってもらえませんか。

  Could you take a picture for us?
