〜ところだ

ところ marks the stage of an action on a timeline: 辞書形＋ところだ = right before, 〜ているところだ = right in the middle, 〜たところだ = right after. It is common in conversation, often with adverbs like 今 or ちょうど. Note that 〜たところだ points to a genuinely just-finished moment, while 〜たばかり allows a looser sense of 'recently'.

• 今から出かけるところです。

  いまからでかけるところです。

  I'm just about to go out now.

• 今、レポートを書いているところだから、あとで電話するね。

  いま、れぽーとをかいているところだから、あとででんわするね。

  I'm in the middle of writing a report, so I'll call you later.

• ちょうど駅に着いたところです。すぐ行きます。

  ちょうどえきについたところです。すぐいきます。

  I've just arrived at the station. I'll be there soon.
