疑問詞＋か（間接疑問）

When a question containing 何・誰・どこ・いつ・どう・どちら etc. is embedded in a larger sentence, the question ends in か and is followed by verbs such as 分かる, 知る, 覚えている, 教える, 聞く. The particle を or が before the main verb is often dropped (どこにあるか知っていますか). Do not add かどうか here — the question word already supplies the question.

• トイレがどこにあるか教えてください。

  といれがどこにあるかおしえてください。

  Please tell me where the toilet is.

• パーティーに誰が来るかまだ分かりません。

  ぱーてぃーにだれがくるかまだわかりません。

  I don't know yet who is coming to the party.

• 彼女がいつ日本へ帰るか聞いてみます。

  かのじょがいつにほんへかえるかきいてみます。

  I'll ask when she is going back to Japan.
