〜ものだから／〜もので

Gives a reason the speaker wants the listener to accept, typically when apologising or making an excuse. 〜もので is the softer, politer variant used in spoken Japanese; 〜ものだから emphasises the reason more strongly, and 〜もんだから is casual. Because it is an excuse, the main clause normally states a result, not a request, command or invitation.

• 電車が遅れたものだから、遅刻してしまいました。

  でんしゃが おくれた ものだから、ちこく して しまいました。

  The train was delayed, so I ended up being late.

• 子どもが急に熱を出したもので、早退させていただきました。

  こどもが きゅうに ねつを だした もので、そうたい させて いただきました。

  My child suddenly ran a fever, so I left work early.

• このパソコン、古いものだからすぐ止まるんですよ。

  この パソコン、ふるい ものだから すぐ とまるんですよ。

  This computer is old, you see, so it freezes all the time.
