〜だらけ

だらけ says that something is covered in or full of a large amount of one thing, almost always something the speaker finds dirty, messy or undesirable: 泥だらけ, 間違いだらけ, 借金だらけ. The resulting phrase is a noun and takes だ or の (泥だらけの靴). Compare 〜まみれ (literally smeared with a liquid/powder such as 汗・血) and 〜ばかり (only, nothing but), which is neutral; だらけ carries a clear negative evaluation.

• 子どもたちは泥だらけになって帰ってきた。

  こどもたちはどろだらけになってかえってきた。

  The kids came home covered in mud.

• この作文は間違いだらけですよ。

  このさくぶんはまちがいだらけですよ。

  This composition is full of mistakes.

• 掃除をしていない部屋はほこりだらけだった。

  そうじをしていないへやはほこりだらけだった。

  The room that hadn't been cleaned was thick with dust.
