〜について

について marks the topic of thinking, speaking, writing, asking or researching, and pairs with verbs like 話す, 書く, 考える, 調べる, 質問する. To modify a following noun, use についての (日本の文化についての本). It is neutral in register and usable in both conversation and writing; 〜に関して is its stiffer, more formal equivalent.

• 日本の習慣について質問があります。

  にほんのしゅうかんについてしつもんがあります。

  I have a question about Japanese customs.

• 環境問題について作文を書きました。

  かんきょうもんだいについてさくぶんをかきました。

  I wrote an essay about environmental problems.

• その事故についての詳しい情報はまだ発表されていない。

  そのじこについてのくわしいじょうほうはまだはっぴょうされていない。

  Detailed information about that accident has not been released yet.
