〜ついでに

Shows that while doing a main action A you also do a secondary action B, taking advantage of the occasion. A must be the primary purpose and B the extra one; reversing them sounds odd. It is common in casual conversation and often appears with 出かける, 買い物, 散歩 and with requests (〜ついでに〜てきて).

• 散歩のついでに、パンを買ってきた。

  さんぽのついでに、パンをかってきた。

  I bought some bread while I was out on my walk.

• 銀行へ行くついでに、この手紙も出してくれない？

  ぎんこうへいくついでに、このてがみもだしてくれない？

  Could you mail this letter while you're going to the bank?

• 出張のついでに、昔の友人に会ってきました。

  しゅっちょうのついでに、むかしのゆうじんにあってきました。

  While on my business trip, I took the chance to meet an old friend.
