〜わけではない

A partial denial: it corrects a conclusion the listener might draw, saying 'that's not what I mean'. Often used with 別に, 特に, 全部/いつも to soften or limit a statement. Do not confuse it with 〜わけがない, which denies possibility completely; 〜わけではない only denies the whole of it. The casual form is 〜わけじゃない.

• 野菜が嫌いなわけではないが、あまり食べない。

  やさいがきらいなわけではないが、あまりたべない。

  It's not that I dislike vegetables, I just don't eat much of them.

• 日本人がみんな寿司が好きなわけではない。

  にほんじんがみんなすしがすきなわけではない。

  Not all Japanese people like sushi.

• 별に怒っているわけじゃないよ、ちょっと疲れているだけ。

  べつにおこっているわけじゃないよ、ちょっとつかれているだけ。

  I'm not angry or anything, I'm just a little tired.
