〜としても

Used to suppose something (often hypothetical or not yet confirmed) and then state that the conclusion does not change. It is a little stiffer and more argumentative than plain 〜ても, so it is common in discussion, writing and news. The second clause usually expresses the speaker's judgement, so commands and invitations sound odd after it.

• 雨が降ったとしても、試合は行われます。

  あめが ふったとしても、しあいは おこなわれます。

  Even if it rains, the match will be held.

• 彼の話が本当だとしても、私は賛成できない。

  かれの はなしが ほんとうだとしても、わたしは さんせい できない。

  Even supposing his story is true, I can't agree.

• 今から出発したとしても、間に合わないだろう。

  いまから しゅっぱつしたとしても、まにあわないだろう。

  Even if we left right now, we probably wouldn't make it.
