〜一方（で）

Presents two contrasting or simply coexisting sides of the same subject or situation. Unlike 〜反面, it is not limited to opposite evaluations; it can also just list two parallel activities (働く一方で勉強もする). Common in written Japanese, essays and news; the subject of both clauses is often the same person or topic.

• 兄は会社で働く一方で、大学院にも通っている。

  あにはかいしゃではたらくいっぽうで、だいがくいんにもかよっている。

  My brother works at a company while also attending graduate school.

• 都会の人口が増える一方、地方では人が減っている。

  とかいのじんこうがふえるいっぽう、ちほうではひとがへっている。

  While the urban population is growing, rural areas are losing people.

• この仕事は収入がいい一方で、休みが少ない。

  このしごとはしゅうにゅうがいいいっぽうで、やすみがすくない。

  This job pays well, but on the other hand there are few days off.
