〜からして

Two related uses. (1) Judging from one obvious clue, the speaker draws a conclusion: あの話し方からして、彼は関西の人だろう. (2) Picking the most basic example to say 'even this, let alone the rest', usually followed by a negative or critical comment. It is a spoken, subjective judgement, unlike 〜に基づいて; in use (1) it overlaps with 〜から見ると but focuses on a single telling detail.

• あの顔つきからして、試験はだめだったようだ。

  あのかおつきからして、しけんはだめだったようだ。

  Judging from that expression, the exam seems to have gone badly.

• あの店は、値段からして高すぎる。

  あのみせは、ねだんからしてたかすぎる。

  That shop — just take the prices — is far too expensive.

• 彼は挨拶からしてできないのだから、営業は無理だろう。

  かれはあいさつからしてできないのだから、えいぎょうはむりだろう。

  He can't even manage a greeting, so sales work is surely beyond him.
