〜を抜きにして

Means to set something aside or do without it. With は and a negative ending (〜を抜きにしては〜ない) it means "~ cannot be done without/apart from it". The 〜は抜きにして form is common in speech to propose dropping formalities, as in 挨拶は抜きにして (let's skip the greetings).

• 今日は仕事の話は抜きにして楽しみましょう。

  きょうはしごとのはなしはぬきにしてたのしみましょう。

  Let's leave work talk aside today and just enjoy ourselves.

• 冗談を抜きにして、本当のことを話してください。

  じょうだんをぬきにして、ほんとうのことをはなしてください。

  Joking aside, please tell me the truth.

• 彼の努力を抜きにしては、このチームの優勝は語れない。

  かれのどりょくをぬきにしては、このチームのゆうしょうはかたれない。

  You can't talk about this team's victory without mentioning his efforts.
