〜はともかく

Used to put one topic aside temporarily in order to raise something the speaker considers more important or more urgent. The second clause carries the real point. It often implies the set-aside item is problematic or undecided, so it can sound dismissive; compare 〜はもちろん, which adds rather than sets aside.

• 値段はともかく、このパソコンはデザインがいい。

  ねだんはともかく、このパソコンはデザインがいい。

  Price aside, this computer has a nice design.

• 平日はともかく、週末はこの店はとても混む。

  へいじつはともかく、しゅうまつはこのみせはとてもこむ。

  Weekdays aside, this shop is very crowded on weekends.

• 結果はともかくとして、最後まで頑張ったことが大切だ。

  けっかはともかくとして、さいごまでがんばったことがたいせつだ。

  Regardless of the result, what matters is that you tried to the end.
