〜ないことはない／〜なくはない

A double negative that gives a reserved, partial affirmation: the speaker admits a possibility without committing fully. It is often used to soften a refusal or to accept a request grudgingly, frequently with 〜が／〜けど plus a condition. 〜なくはない is slightly more casual and understated than 〜ないことはない.

• 辛い物は食べられないことはないが、あまり好きじゃない。

  からいものはたべられないことはないが、あまりすきじゃない。

  It's not that I can't eat spicy food, but I don't really like it.

• 今からでも間に合わなくはないよ。急ごう。

  いまからでもまにあわなくはないよ。いそごう。

  We might still make it even if we go now. Let's hurry.

• 手伝わないことはないけど、今日は時間が限られている。

  てつだわないことはないけど、きょうはじかんがかぎられている。

  It's not that I won't help you, but I have limited time today.
