〜だけあって／〜だけに

Gives a reason (status, effort, experience) and presents the result as fitting and admirable: 'no wonder'. 〜だけあって is mainly for praise and positive outcomes, while 〜だけに can also introduce negative or unexpected results (especially with 〜だけに〜だけよけいに, 'all the more'). Since it conveys the speaker's evaluation, it is not normally used about oneself.

• 彼女は留学しただけあって、英語が上手だ。

  かのじょはりゅうがくしただけあって、えいごがじょうずだ。

  As you'd expect from someone who studied abroad, her English is excellent.

• この店は有名なだけあって、いつも混んでいる。

  このみせはゆうめいなだけあって、いつもこんでいる。

  Being famous, this shop is always crowded, as you'd expect.

• 期待していただけに、負けたときのショックは大きかった。

  きたいしていただけに、まけたときのショックはおおきかった。

  Precisely because we had high hopes, the loss was all the more shocking.
