〜ことから

Gives the evidence or origin from which a judgement, name or conclusion is derived. It is very common in explanations of how something got its name (形が富士山に似ていることから…と呼ばれる) and in objective reasoning in written Japanese. Unlike から or ので, it does not express a personal reason for an action, so it is not used with requests, invitations or volitional endings.

• この池は水が青いことから「青池」と呼ばれている。

  このいけはみずがあおいことから「あおいけ」とよばれている。

  Because its water is blue, this pond is called 'Blue Pond'.

• 窓が開いていたことから、泥棒はここから入ったと考えられる。

  まどがあいていたことから、どろぼうはここからはいったとかんがえられる。

  From the fact that the window was open, it is thought the thief came in here.

• 彼は日本語が上手なことから、通訳を任された。

  かれはにほんごがじょうずなことから、つうやくをまかされた。

  Since he is good at Japanese, he was entrusted with the interpreting.
