〜だけで／〜だけでも

〜だけで says that a minimal action or condition is enough to produce the result, or that merely imagining/doing it already causes a strong feeling. Adding も emphasises that even that small amount is sufficient or already has an effect, often with 〜うれしい, 〜ありがたい, 〜こわい. It is common in spoken Japanese and often pairs with 想像する, 考える, 見る, 聞く.

• このボタンを押すだけで、コーヒーができます。

  このぼたんをおすだけで、こーひーができます。

  Just by pressing this button, you get coffee.

• 来てくれただけでもうれしいです。

  きてくれただけでもうれしいです。

  I'm happy just that you came.

• あの事故のことは、想像するだけでも恐ろしい。

  あのじこのことは、そうぞうするだけでもおそろしい。

  That accident is terrifying just to imagine.
