〜をおいて他にない

A strong expression of highest evaluation: apart from this person or thing, no other candidate qualifies. With people, 他にいない is used; with things, 他にない. It usually appears in praise, recommendations or decisive judgements, and often as 〜をおいて他にないだろう to soften the assertion slightly. It is formal and emphatic, common in speeches and reviews.

• この仕事を任せられるのは彼をおいて他にない。

  このしごとをまかせられるのはかれをおいてほかにない。

  He is the only one we can entrust this job to.

• 次の会長にふさわしい人物は、あなたをおいて他にいないでしょう。

  つぎのかいちょうにふさわしいじんぶつは、あなたをおいてほかにいないでしょう。

  There is surely no one but you fit to be the next chairperson.

• この問題を解決する道は、話し合いをおいて他にない。

  このもんだいをかいけつするみちは、はなしあいをおいてほかにない。

  There is no way to solve this problem other than through dialogue.
