〜に足る／〜に足りない

States that something has (or lacks) enough value to deserve a certain action or evaluation. Typical collocations are 信頼するに足る, 尊敬に足る, 満足に足る, and negatively 取るに足りない ('trivial'), 恐れるに足りない. It is formal written Japanese; 〜に値する is close in meaning, while 〜に足りない adds a dismissive tone that 〜価値がない does not.

• 彼は信頼するに足る人物だ。

  かれはしんらいするにたるじんぶつだ。

  He is a person worthy of trust.

• そんな取るに足りないことで悩む必要はない。

  そんなとるにたりないことでなやむひつようはない。

  There's no need to worry over such a trivial matter.

• 満足に足る証拠が得られず、捜査は打ち切られた。

  まんぞくにたるしょうこがえられず、そうさはうちきられた。

  Satisfactory evidence could not be obtained, and the investigation was called off.
