〜となると／〜となれば

Introduces a hypothetical or newly assumed situation and states what naturally follows from it. The nuance is 'once that becomes the case, things change / something must be done'. Common in both speech and writing; 〜となれば is slightly more conditional, 〜となると often reacts to information just given. Unlike 〜について (about), it presents the topic as a situation with consequences.

• 海外で働くとなると、ビザの準備が必要だ。

  かいがいではたらくとなると、びざのじゅんびがひつようだ。

  If it comes to working abroad, you'll need to prepare a visa.

• 彼は自分の趣味の話となると、止まらなくなる。

  かれはじぶんのしゅみのはなしとなると、とまらなくなる。

  When it comes to talking about his hobby, he just won't stop.

• 社長が辞任するとなれば、会社の方針も変わるだろう。

  しゃちょうがじにんするとなれば、かいしゃのほうしんもかわるだろう。

  If the president really resigns, the company's policy will probably change too.
