〜というもの

Attached to a span of time (この一年、ここ三か月 etc.) to emphasize that the same state continued throughout, felt by the speaker as long. Usually followed by a continuous state or repeated action, often with ずっと. Written and formal-spoken; do not confuse it with 〜というものだ (that's what ... is) or 〜というものではない (it's not that ...).

• この一週間というもの、雨が降り続いている。

  このいっしゅうかんというもの、あめがふりつづいている。

  It has been raining nonstop for this entire week.

• ここ三年というもの、彼女は故郷に帰っていない。

  ここさんねんというもの、かのじょはこきょうにかえっていない。

  For these three years she hasn't once gone back to her hometown.

• 入院してからというもの、彼は食事にとても気を使うようになった。

  にゅういんしてからというもの、かれはしょくじにとてもきをつかうようになった。

  Ever since he was hospitalized, he has been extremely careful about his diet.
