〜のほうが〜

ほう means 'side/option', so AのほうがBより〜 picks out A as the greater of two choices. It is the standard way to answer a comparison question like AとBとどちらが〜ですか, where you reply Aのほうが〜です. With verbs, use the plain form directly before ほうが (歩くほうが早いです).

• コーヒーのほうが好きです。

  コーヒーのほうがすきです。

  I like coffee more.

• この店のほうがあの店より安いです。

  このみせのほうがあのみせよりやすいです。

  This shop is cheaper than that one.

• バスより歩くほうが早いですよ。

  バスよりあるくほうがはやいですよ。

  Walking is faster than taking the bus, you know.
