〜かたがた

Used when one action serves two purposes at once, typically visiting or writing to someone. It attaches only to nouns of action like お礼, ご挨拶, お見舞い, 報告, and the main clause is usually a verb of going, coming or visiting. Very formal, mostly in letters and business greetings; 〜がてら is the casual everyday counterpart.

• お礼かたがたご挨拶に伺いました。

  おれいかたがたごあいさつにうかがいました。

  I have come to greet you and to thank you at the same time.

• ご報告かたがたお願いのメールを差し上げます。

  ごほうこくかたがたおねがいのめーるをさしあげます。

  I am sending this email to report and also to make a request.

• 散歩かたがた、先生のお宅にお寄りした。

  さんぽかたがた、せんせいのおたくにおよりした。

  On my walk, I also dropped by my teacher's house.
