〜を経て

Indicates that a period of time, a process/procedure, or a place was passed through before reaching the present result. Typical nouns: 十年・交渉・審査・会議・パリ. It is formal written Japanese; in conversation 〜のあとで or 〜を通って is more natural. The clause after it normally states an outcome that was finally reached.

• 三年の準備を経て、店をオープンした。

  さんねんのじゅんびをへて、みせをオープンした。

  After three years of preparation, I opened the shop.

• 長い交渉を経て、ようやく合意に達した。

  ながいこうしょうをへて、ようやくごういにたっした。

  After long negotiations, an agreement was finally reached.

• 彼はパリを経てロンドンに向かった。

  かれはパリをへてロンドンにむかった。

  He headed for London via Paris.
