〜はおろか

Presents an obvious item first and then adds something more extreme, in the pattern 'not even A, let alone B'. The second part normally carries も・さえ・すら・まで, and the sentence as a whole is negative or undesirable in tone. It cannot be used for requests, invitations or the speaker's own intentions, and it is more emphatic and literary than 〜どころか.

• 祖父は漢字はおろか、ひらがなも読めない。

  そふはかんじはおろか、ひらがなもよめない。

  My grandfather can't read hiragana, let alone kanji.

• 忙しくて、旅行はおろか休日に外出することもできない。

  いそがしくて、りょこうはおろかきゅうじつにがいしゅつすることもできない。

  I'm so busy that I can't even go out on my days off, let alone travel.

• 地震で家財はおろか、住む家さえ失ってしまった。

  じしんでかざいはおろか、すむいえさえうしなってしまった。

  In the earthquake they lost not just their belongings but even the house they lived in.
