〜もさることながら

Acknowledges that A is certainly true or important, then puts the real emphasis on B, which follows with も・は・が. Both A and B are usually positive or at least neutral evaluations, so it is common in reviews, speeches and written commentary. Unlike 〜はもちろん, which simply adds B, this pattern clearly shifts the weight onto B; it is formal and rarely used in casual conversation.

• この店は味もさることながら、店員の対応がすばらしい。

  このみせはあじもさることながら、てんいんのたいおうがすばらしい。

  The food at this restaurant is good, of course, but the staff's service is wonderful.

• デザインもさることながら、この車は燃費の良さで人気がある。

  デザインもさることながら、このくるまはねんぴのよさでにんきがある。

  The design aside, this car is popular for its fuel efficiency.

• 本人の努力もさることながら、周囲の支えが成功の鍵だった。

  ほんにんのどりょくもさることながら、しゅういのささえがせいこうのかぎだった。

  His own effort mattered, of course, but the support around him was the key to his success.
