〜ときたら

Picks up a person or thing close to the speaker as a topic and follows with criticism, complaint or exasperation. It belongs to casual spoken Japanese and is often used about family members, colleagues or one's own possessions (うちの父ときたら, この携帯ときたら). The predicate is typically negative in evaluation; occasionally it introduces surprised admiration, but the default tone is grumbling, so avoid it with superiors.

• うちの兄ときたら、休みの日は一日中寝ている。

  うちのあにときたら、やすみのひはいちにちじゅうねている。

  My brother, honestly — he sleeps all day on his days off.

• このパソコンときたら、すぐに固まって困る。

  このパソコンときたら、すぐにかたまってこまる。

  This computer of mine keeps freezing — it's such a nuisance.

• 最近の天気ときたら、晴れたと思ったらすぐ雨だ。

  さいきんのてんきときたら、はれたとおもったらすぐあめだ。

  The weather lately — no sooner does it clear up than it rains again.
