〜ずくめ

Attaches to a limited set of nouns to say that everything is that one thing, either literally (colour, especially 黒ずくめ) or figuratively (いいことずくめ, 記録ずくめ, ごちそうずくめ). It usually describes a striking concentration and often has a positive or at least remarkable flavour. Distinguish it from 〜だらけ, which stresses an unpleasant mess (泥だらけ), and from 〜まみれ, which means covered in a substance.

• 黒ずくめの男が店に入ってきた。

  くろずくめのおとこがみせにはいってきた。

  A man dressed all in black came into the shop.

• 今年はいいことずくめの一年だった。

  ことしはいいことずくめのいちねんだった。

  This year has been one full of good things.

• 結婚披露宴はごちそうずくめで、食べきれなかった。

  けっこんひろうえんはごちそうずくめで、たべきれなかった。

  The wedding reception was nothing but feasts; I couldn't finish it all.
